William "Tom" Blankenship, age 92, passed away on December 8, 2025, Gun Barrel City, Texas. He was born on February 17, 1933, in Cornett Community, Texas to parents V.O. and Mary (Floyd) Blankenship.
Tom was a man of remarkable talent and creativity. Best known as the inventor of the IVA Seal III, patent number 4,266,687, a tamper-evident device for IV medications, Tom's contribution to the medical field was significant. It's said that the final design of the device came to him in a dream, showcasing not only his inventive mind but also his ability to turn visions into reality.
Beyond his inventive prowess, Tom was deeply involved in his community. He proudly served as a 40-year member of the Nortex Square and Round Dance Association, where he embraced the joy of dancing, camaraderie, and community spirit. An avid Dallas Cowboys fan, he cheered for his team with unwavering enthusiasm. He was also a devoted follower of Duncanville High School Athletics.
Tom's life was a blend of passion, creativity, and community spirit. He leaves behind a rich legacy through his inventions and the friendships he cultivated throughout his life. He will be fondly remembered by those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, V.O. and Mary Blankenship; and wife of 62 years, Patsy Ann (Leftwich) Blankenship.
Tom is survived by his daughter, Vanessa Red; son, Thomas Blankenship; daughter, Pennie Milligan; grandsons, Ben Kilpatrick, Dillon Blankenship; granddaughters, Taylor Hamm, McKenzie Watson, Erin Garrett; great-grandsons, Jack Kilpatrick, Will Kilpatrick, Waylon Garrett; great-granddaughters, Emily Watson, Aurora Hamm; three sisters; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family, friends, and loved ones.
Family will have a Celebration of Life at a later date.
