Wayne Edward Brinson (1935 - 2024)
Wayne E. Brinson, 88, passed away June 19, 2024, in Tyler, Texas. He was the only son born on December 13, 1934, in Dallas, Texas to his parents Tilman and Vida (Yates) Brinson. He grew up in the Dallas area along with his four sisters, three who preceded him in death (Modine, Lois and Margaret) and Joyce Shults of Bastrop, Texas.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Joan Brinson (Mt. Pleasant), daughters and son-in-laws: John and Kathy Bailey (Houston), Tony and Brenda Davee (Austin), and Kent and Jan Coker (Eustace); stepson and wife, Paul and Kim McGee; and stepdaughter and husband, Carl and Penny Fortune. He had nine grandchildren: Kristen Marquardt, Kevin Bailey, Jared and Amy Davee, Kim and Ben Hadaway, Andy Coker, Daniel Cokerland, Peter and Amber Coker, Brandi and Josh Hines, and Tiffany and Gunnar Maxwell. He also leaves behind eleven great-grandchildren.
Wayne served in the United States Marines from June 7, 1954 to April 1, 1958 in Japan and San Diego. He graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a B.B.A. in Accounting while raising a young family and working fulltime for Braniff Airlines in the Dallas area. Upon college graduation he began a lengthy career with the State of Texas primarily in MHMR as an accountant and business manager until his retirement.
Wayne had a quirky sense of humor and loved to tease family and friends. He also enjoyed playing dominoes, particularly 42, and recently started playing bingo.
After retiring, Wayne with his wife, Joan, eventually moved to DeKalb preferring the slow pace of country life. In his retirement years, he enjoyed reading westerns, riding his big lawnmower, shopping at Walmart, watching football, basketball, and golf and most recently watching car racing with Joan on tv.
Dad wanted the following words to be included in his obituary:
“Was here, done good, said bye.”
