Tommie Nell Nix

October 18, 1939 — December 25, 2018

It is with heavy hearts of sadness and blessing we announce the passing of Tommie Nell (Carroll) Nix, age 79, on December 25, 2018 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. What a glorious day for our beautiful and sweet Mom and “Nana” to go and be with the Lord on the day we celebrate the birth of Christ. She fought cancer the only way  we know her to fight: with love, grace, and faith.

To the end her brown eyes had the same sparkle we’ve been blessed with for all of these years and her skin glowed more than anyone else in the room.  This loss will leave an immense void for all of the countless lives she touched.  She leaves us with countless memories and a great legacy instilled family, and we know that she is more alive now than she ever has been. She was a beloved wife, mom, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Tommie Nix was born on October 18, 1939 in Kaufman, Texas to Thomas and Merel Carroll who predeceased her.  She married the love of her life, Charles Nix, nearly 60  years ago on June 20, 1959.  Their sweet love brought them three beautiful children.  Charlie and Tommie were best friends and soul mates.

Faith and family were at the forefront of Tommie’s life.  Tommie had immense pride in her children and her grandchildren were the highlight of her life.  Everything she did, she did it for her family.  Her favorite pastimes were cooking cakes and pies, spending time by the lake, and shopping with her daughters and granddaughters. She loved to laugh and always had the prettiest smile in the room.

Tommie’s professional career began when she worked for Sears as an Accounts Payable Clerk for 15 years. She then opened her Merle Norman cosmetic store which suited her well as she always had the most beautiful makeup which she did not leave the house without. Tommie was always by Charlie’s side in their many business ventures including a grocery store and restaurant and auto repair body shop.  Tommie was an absolute joy to work with and for and made lifelong friends throughout her career. Tommie was also an active member of First Baptist Church of Gun Barrel City, Texas.

Tommie is survived by her loving husband Alva Charles Nix Jr.  Her three children: Chuck Nix and partner Kim Marckini of Longview, Monica and Russ Perry Beckville, Lori and Aaron Mills of Glen Rose. Seven Grandchildren: Aarica and Chris Mims, Whitney and Brian Reed, Jordan Nix, Dustin Briggs, Tanner Nix, Rylee and Brock Mills.  Five Great Grandchildren: Carson Nix, Callan Reed, Sumner Mims, Sanders Mims, and Ember Reed.  One Sister: Margie Carter and Paul Jones.  Sisters-in-Laws: Ima (Melvin) Wikoff, Betty (Raymond) Curbow, Janice Morris, Brenda (Jackie) Harris.  Brother-in-Law: Jimmy Nix.  Numerous nieces and nephews who all loved her dearly.
