Stella Jean Castro, age 82, passed away on September 27, 2025, in Gun Barrel City, Texas. She was born in Lebanon, Indiana, on July 15, 1943, to parents Edgar and Pauline Pauley.
Stella worked as an electronics technician, with E.G&G and worked at Bally's gaming in Las Vegas. Stella was the youngest of four girls and approached life with a very headstrong personality. Stella took immense joy in her role as a mother and grandmother. She loved her three children dearly Steve, Pia, and Bonnie. Her son Steve, along with his wife Jennifer, made it a cherished tradition to travel from South Carolina each year in July to celebrate her birthday, inviting her friends and family, a gathering that was always a highlight for Stella, who cherished those moments at her home in Gun Barrel City, Texas.
Stella had a great love for animals and an undying spirit that infused her everyday life. She was not just dedicated to her work; she also enjoyed various hobbies, most notably bowling. Stella was a regular participant in a bowling league in Las Vegas with her husband, daughter Bonnie, and son-in-law Travis, and they created countless memories together on the lanes. An avid jet skier, she was often found cutting waves on Lake Mead every weekend, showcasing her adventurous side.
During the Christmas holidays, Stella and her daughters embraced the spirit of the season by making wreaths to sell, a creative endeavor that allowed them to bond and share joy with others.
Stella is preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Pauline Pauley; husband, John Castro; sister, RuthAnn Denning; sister, Phyllis Williams; sister, Julia Strahan; brother, Steven Pauley; brother, Mike Quinlin; brother, Jim Pauley; and 6 grandchildren.
Stella is survived by her daughter, Pia McDonald and husband Olean of Bauxite, Arkansas; daughter, Bonnie Neal and husband Travis of Gun Barrel city, Texas; son, Steve Ballentine and wife Jennifer of James Island, South Carolina; sister, Lana Pete of Indiana; sister, Carol Flamion of Indiana; brother, Chuck Quinlin of Indiana; 11 grandchildren; 12 greatgrandchildren; 1 great-greatgrandchild; as well as numerous other extended family and friends.
