Sammy Lawson Denby, 88, passed away on July 30, 2024, in Dallas, Texas. He was born on December 15, 1935, in Canton, Texas, to parents Elon and Jessie (Gage) Denby.
Sam was an esteemed entrepreneur as the owner and operator of Denby's Barbershop for an impressive 46 years. His commitment to his craft and his genuine care for his customers made his barbershop not just a place for haircuts but a hub of friendship and laughter. In addition to his work at the barbershop, Sam served as a crossing guard for Rockwall ISD for 24 years, ensuring the safety of countless children with his vigilant presence and friendly smile.
A true patriot, Sam also honorably served in the Army National Guard, embodying a sense of duty and service that defined his character. Beyond his professional life, Sam was a man of diverse interests and passions. An accomplished oil painter, he brought beauty into the world with every stroke of his brush. His love for art was matched only by his enthusiasm for watching the Dallas Cowboys play football - a loyal fan through and through.
One of Sam's greatest joys was spending time with his cherished donkey, Jack. Their bond was undeniable as Sam lovingly treated Jack to a gourmet diet of Cheetos, apples, and carrots. This unique friendship was a reflection of Sam's tender heart and playful spirit.
In his leisure time, Sam enjoyed watching classic TV shows like Gunsmoke and old movies. He had a thirst for adventure and loved traveling to new places, always eager to explore the wonders of the world around him. Mondays held a special place in Sam's heart as he looked forward to spending them with his beloved grandkids. Their laughter filled his home with joy and warmth, creating precious memories that will be treasured forever.
One cannot speak of Sam without mentioning his beloved "Pup Mobile" adventures. His outings to get coffee at 7-ll accompanied by his puppies captured the essence of his fun-loving nature and zest for life.
Sam will be deeply missed by all who knew him - family members, friends, neighbors, customers, students - each touched by his generosity, humor, and genuine kindness. Though he may no longer walk among us, the light he brought into our lives will continue to shine brightly in our memories.
