Robert Allen Ward, Sr., age 78, passed away on November 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at his home in Mabank, Texas. He was born in Mabank, Texas on August 21, 1947, to parents Arthur L. and Velma (Bookman) Ward.
Robert's roots were deeply intertwined with the soil of Mabank, Texas. He was born and raised on the same land where his father was raised, nurturing a bond that would later continue with his own children.
Robert attended Mabank Schools, his personality was quiet, steadfast, and dependable. Known for his easy-going demeanor and a helping hand always at the ready, he was a hard worker who approached his job with a work ethic that far exceeded expectations. Robert dedicated many years of his life as a diesel mechanic, contributing his skills and expertise to Yellow Freight Lines until his retirement in 2010.
As he marked nearly 59 years of marriage to his beloved wife Margie, their journey together was characterized by mutual love, respect, and countless shared memories. Their union was a beacon of what commitment and partnership look like, an enduring love that serves as an inspiration to all who knew them.
Throughout his life, Robert held a passion for connecting with nature, often indulging in hunting and camping trips with his sons, grandsons, and nephews. These shared moments formed some of the most cherished memories, each adventure helping to strengthen the bonds of family. It was these simple yet profound times spent with loved ones that brought him the most joyful testament to his deep-rooted love for his children.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur “Soc” and Velma Ward; brother, Donald Ward; son, Joey Allen; and grandson, Dakota Belknap.
Robert is survived by his wife, Margie Ward of Mabank, Texas; son, Robert Ward, Jr. and wife Karen of DeKalb, Texas; daughter, Teresa Collins and husband Tim of Wills Point, Texas; daughter, Jennifer Belknap and husband Billy of Beaumont, Texas; daughter, Jeanette Bennett and husband Michael of Alvarado, Texas; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; many who called him their grandpa or “Big Robert”; brothers, Bobby Ward and wife Gaye, and Jack Ward; sisters, Patsy Hulse, Wanda McLemee, Sherry Harvell, Barbara Tebo and husband J.D.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family, friends, and loved ones.
