Retha Ann Moffatt

September 24, 1935 — December 24, 2022

Our Angel, Mom, Nana, Great-Nana, and Friend, Retha, took her journey to heaven to be with the Lord and the love of her life, Bud, on December 24, 2022 – What a gift Jesus received that day!

Born on September 24, 1935, to Pem and Thelma, she was the youngest of five children – one of two sisters and two brothers, and oh, how she loved them.  She also loved her nieces and nephews.  She was the last of her generation.

She was raised in CenterPoint, Oklahoma. She graduated from Atoka High School in May 1954.  While still in high school, she met the love of her life, Wallace G. (Bud) Moffatt. They married on August 11, 1954, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.  They had their first child, Sally Ann, in 1955 and moved to Dallas, Texas, in 1958 to start their lives together and what a journey for a little country girl from Oklahoma. She was a bit nervous about going to the Big City.  In 1959 their second child, Stan, was born.

Her first job was with Lone Star Wholesale Liquor Distributor as a switchboard operator.  To advance in her career, she went to Executive Secretarial School to learn typing and shorthand.  Her career with Lone Star lasted 20 years.  Retha took early retirement. After a little time off, one of her customers asked her to come to work with them at Hiram Walker.  Retha became the Southwest Administrative Manager for Hiram Walker in 1984 – quite an accomplishment.  She and Bud both retired early and moved to Cedar Creek Lake, where they enjoyed their retirement together.

She loved life and having a good time.  Her steel blue/green eyes and infectious smile were so welcoming.  If you met her, you’d love her, and she’d love you.  She enjoyed fishing with dad, gardening, crafting, and a good party.

Retha is survived by her daughter Sally Ann Gorrell of Garland, Texas; son Stan Moffatt and life partner Kirk Koenig of Payne Springs, Texas; grandson Kenneth Gorrell III and wife Kayla of Wylie, Texas; great-grandchildren Kenneth Gorrell IV, Millie Gorrell, and Aly Gorrell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Pem and Thelma Layne of CenterPoint, Oklahoma, her husband of 59 years, Bud Moffatt, brothers Doss Layne and Ted Layne, and sisters EvaLee Gorden and Kathleen Satterfield.

You will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved you, until we see you again.
