Patrick Ray Harper, age 79, passed away on July 31, 2025, in Grand Saline, Texas. He was born on February 17, 1946, in Marshall, Texas to parents Porter and Dorothy (Smith) Harper.
Pat was known for his dedicated work in construction and home building throughout Marshall, Longview, and Cedar Creek Lake. His hands shaped many homes, which stood as a testament to his skill and commitment to quality.
Pat graduated from Marshall High School and pursued further education with two years at Kilgore College. Afterward, he proudly served in the Navy, an experience that he often reminisced about with a twinkle in his eye. His service was a source of pride, and he valued the lessons learned during that time dearly.
Throughout his life, Pat earned recognition for his hard work and dedication, including the Spike Award from the Home Builders Association and being named the most productive insurance inspector. These accomplishments reflect not just his professional skills but also the strong sense of duty he carried with him.
Pat's love for classic cars and his enjoyment of traveling were central to his personality. He was a frequent visitor at old car swap-meets, where he delighted in discovering treasures that spurred memories of times past. A motorcycle enthusiast, he loved the feeling of the open road and often spent time riding through the scenic landscapes he cherished. He also found great solace in reading and had a whimsical knack for designing and building homes that truly reflected the essence of comfort and style.
Those who knew Pat would describe him as compassionate, honest, trustworthy, dependable, and loyal. He had a heart for those in need and always extended a helping hand to friends and strangers alike.
Pat is preceded in death by his parents, Porter and Dorothy Harper; step-father, Truman Rogers; sister, Katherine Bush; sister, Ann Jones; brother, Howard Harper; and niece, Felecia Harper.
Pat is survived by his wife, Janice Harper of Seven Points, Texas; son, Roger Harper of Richwood, Texas; son, Jason Harper of San Marcus, Texas; step-daughter, Tracie Baker of Tishomingo, Mississippi; step-daughter, Angela Garza of Mabank, Texas; grandson, Ethan Harper of Richwood, Texas; grandson, Christian Harper of San Marcus, Texas; granddaughter, Tiffany Gilley of Mesquite, Texas; granddaughter, Alexandrea Baker of Dallas, Texas; granddaughter, Jaci Belcher of Mabank, Texas; brother, William Harper and spouse Rae of Harleton, Texas; as well as numerous other family, friends, and loved ones.
