Michael Don Shaid, age 68, of Mabank, Texas, passed away on March 19, 2026. He was born in Palestine, Texas on March 19, 1958, to parents Reuben Berwell and Marilyn Yvonne (Browning) Shaid.
Growing up, Michael was no stranger to early mornings and discipline. He attended Catholic school in Albuquerque, New Mexico, before later attending Palestine High School, class of 1976. But what truly set him apart was his quick wit and infectious sense of humor. He had a gift for lighting up any room, putting others at ease, and leaving people smiling long after he’d gone.
A longtime derrick hand, Michael spent most of his life working in the oilfield, a career that shaped who he was. Some of his proudest and most cherished moments were the days he worked side by side with his two sons—memories he often called the best days of his life.
Outside of work, Michael’s world revolved around his family. He took great pride in the life he built and the people he loved. Whether he was fishing by the water, firing up the barbecue, or sitting around a fire telling stories and cracking jokes, he found joy in the simple moments that brought everyone together.
Michael’s legacy is one of hard work, deep love for his family, and a laugh that came at just the right time. He will be missed beyond words by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He worked hard, loved deeply, and lived fully.
Michael is preceded in death by his wife, Debra “Debbie” Shaid; mother, Yvonne Shaid Davis; father, Reuben Shaid; brother, William “Rusty” Shaid; and grandparents, Willard and Georgia Shaid, and Thomas and Versie Rogers.
He is survived by his daughters, Shana Tucker and husband Floyd of Conroe, Texas, Julie Shaid of Mabank, Texas, and Jamie Shaid and husband John of Mabank, Texas; sons, Russell Shaid and wife Sarah of Mabank, Texas, and Michael “Mikey” Shaid, Jr. and wife Ashley of Mabank, Texas; grandchildren, Mariah Miller, Ty Miller, Larry Miller, Jr., Jalen Miller, Jada Miller, Jaden Miller, Miley-Kate Shaid, Mikey Shaid, Malachi Shaid, Courtney Mock, John Mock, and Lennox Wells; great-grandchild, Journee Miller; sisters, Kelly Shaid King of San Antonio, Texas, Rhonda Wessling of Orange, Texas, and Paula Allen and husband Greg of Rowlett, Texas; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
