Melba Jean Conditt

March 14, 1933 — September 19, 2021

Melba Jean Conditt, 88, passed away on September 19, 2021.  She was born in Dallas, Texas, on March 14, 1933, to Mary Viola and Willie Ray Oliver.  She was one of five children and the last to make the journey home.  During her time on Earth, she raised six children of her own:  Diana, Keith, Mahlon, Michael, Derryl, and four minutes later, Cheryl.

She was a loving, nurturing mother, but her nurturing didn’t stop with us.  She volunteered at the VA Hospital, a nursing facility, and took in and cared for sick relatives.  She encouraged us all to help out as we could.  She taught us all how to cook and clean at an early age.  She wanted us to be independent.  She loved crafting, cooking, fishing, dancing, bright colors, her jewelry, and people.  She never met a stranger, only friends she didn’t know yet.  She loved her relatives, and she loved her children.  But perhaps even more, she loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and oh! did they love her.  Nothing put a sparkle in her eyes like her family.

While her earthly family may be heartbroken and grieving, her heavenly family has been anxiously awaiting her arrival.  What a happy reunion!  We will miss her smiles and infectious laughter, the gleam in her eyes when we walked through her door, and her words of wisdom.  Though she is no longer in our arms, she will be forever in our hearts.

Melba is survived by her children:  daughters Diana Jackson and husband Jim, and Cheryl Miller and husband John; sons Keith Turner and wife Kay, Mahlon Turner and wife Judy, Michael Turner and wife Wendy, and Derryl Turner and wife Gina; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents Willie Ray Oliver and Mary Viola Swindle; spouse Henry Conditt; sister Mary Oliver; brothers William Oliver, Herman Oliver, and Freeland Oliver.

Pastor Don Bell with Lakeview Assembly of God in Seven Points, Texas, will officiate for the family of Melba Jean Conditt.

Pallbearers are Keith Turner, Mahlon Turner, Michael Turner, Sr., Derryl Turner, Michael Turner, Jr., and Jonathan Miller.

Honorary Pallbearers are Jim Jackson, John Miller, Bryan Turner, Brian Sparks, Jason Myers, and Christian Hill.
