Mary Catherine Smith

Mary Catherine Smith, 67, passed away on August 29, 2021.  She was born on August 24, 1954, in Terrell, Texas, to parents Olen and Juanita Baugus McDougald.

She attended Kemp High School and Kaufman High School.  She married the love of her life, Dennis Smith, on 12/29/1977, and they began their journey together.  Mary took care of everyone; she was “Nanny” to everyone.  She worked at the Ole West Chicken Shack and later retired from Walmart.  She was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Payne Springs, TX.  They did everything as a family and enjoyed traveling, especially on a cruise.  She also loved dirt track racing, and it was a hobby she and Dennis enjoyed together.  Mary loved to cook, do paint-by-number games on her phone, and mow her yard with a push mower.  More than anything, she loved her husband, kids, grandkids, and her animals (her dogs and chickens.)  Mary will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Mary is survived by her husband of 44 years, Dennis Smith of Kemp; daughters Amy Yudizky and spouse Tonya of Rosenberg, Kristi Dickey and spouse John of Kemp, Aprile Cook of Oklahoma City; grandchildren Mason Yudizky and spouse Stormy of Kemp, Alyshia Cook of Ohio, Savannah Coats of Kemp, Amanda Cook of Ft. Smith, Ashwyn Yudizky of Rosenberg, and Nacoma Yudizky of Rosenberg; great-grandchildren Kaylee, Sophie, Jordan, Kaidynce, and Rainy; siblings Shirley Bruner of Kemp, Michael “Bo” McDougald and spouse Linda of Kemp, Huey McDougald and spouse Dorothy of Kemp; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents Olen and Juanita “Cricket” McDougald; granddaughter Temperance Yudizky; siblings Emory McDougald, Nita McDougald, and Harold McDougald.

Pastor David J. Woodham “Woody” of Rockin’ Country Church in Kemp, Texas, and Chaplain Donald Kile with Hospice Plus will officiate for the Smith family.

Pallbearers are Emory Bruner, Jeff Bruner, Michael Gros, David Adams, Bill Shelton, and Emery “Boomer” Bruner.
