Mary Edith Woodard, age 84, of Mabank, Texas, passed away on January 31, 2026. She was born in Franklin County, Texas on May 7, 1941, to parents, Frank and Pauline (Cooper) Hunnicutt.
Edith graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1960. She then worked as a bank teller, bus driver, beautician and pastor’s wife.
Edith was very loving, funny and kind to everyone she knew, although she could be ornery and mischievous at times. She loved to joke around but would help anyone and everyone at any time. Edith loved to ride motorcycles through the mountains with her husband Charlie, and their infant daughter Charline strapped on the front. She loved going to hear Willing Hearts singing group, which was her husband Charlie, daughter Charline and son-in-law Christopher. Edith’s proudest moments were her marriage to husband Charlie and being a pastor’s wife, the birth of their child Charline and grandbabies Angel, Jeffrey and Christopher, and winning 42 with partner Tonya against Charlie and Rob.
Edith loved playing sports in her younger days. She was a pitcher, with a mean spinball in softball. When Eddie Mosley tried to hit the ball it would go straight up, which made him mad. She also played basketball and baseball games on Atari. Edith loved the rodeo and watched bull riding on TV. She and Charlie enjoyed going to wrestling matches. Edith enthusiastically cooked and cleaned. When traveling she would pack everything but the kitchen sink. She cherished telling the story of her younger days, when she picked 1200 pounds of cotton in order to buy herself an imitation mink coat. At 81 years of age, she helped neighbors carry 12X12 paving stones from the back yard when they were moving. She also helped carry several haydock blocks that day as well. Edith was a very strong person and she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Edith is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Pauline Hunnicutt; brother, Frank Hunnicutt, Jr.; sister, Janice Craft; brother-in-law, Larry Woodard; brother-in-law, Marshall Perritt; sister-in-law, Ruby Woodard; sister-in-law, Mary Finley; niece, Judy Mattox; and niece, Alicia Craft.
