Mary Teresa Stockton

On Sunday April 23, 2023, Mary Teresa Stockton went home to be with the lord.

Mary was born on March 21, 1944, in Chillicothe, OH. She is preceded in death by her husband Harry Stockton, her parents Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Unsworth, her brothers Dan and Mike Unsworth, her son Donald Johnston, stepson Gary Stockton and her stepdaughter Deborah Crawford.

She is survived by her brother, John Unsworth and his wife Susan, numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren along with many friends who felt like family to her.

Throughout Mary’s life, she was devoted and an active member of the Catholic Church. For many years, she was on the parish council, a member of the Mother Theresa Outreach Program, plus an instructional teacher on Sundays and during vacation bible school. For thirty plus years, she was a school bus driver and classroom aide for Arlington, Garland, and Malakoff ISD. For a time, she was a leader for the Head Start Program for Athens ISD, where she got to use her passion for early childhood education. While she was working for Malakoff ISD, she was an aide in all the classrooms. Her favorite one was all the special education classes. She always made friends wherever she went, to her everyone was family.

After her retirement, she loved helping at church and spending time with friends, family and all the grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the great-great-grandchildren. She loved watching the little faces light up as she would teach them songs about shapes, colors, numbers, the alphabet, and their names. She loved to play Bunco, listen to classic country, and playing solitaire no matter if it was with cards, or on a phone, a tablet, or a computer.

Mary’s services will be held on May 23, 2023, at 11 am at St. Jude Catholic Church, 172 Luther Ln., Gun Barrel City, TX, 75156.
