Loretta Janice McDade

September 1, 1936 — March 11, 2023

Loretta Janice (Wilson) McDade, 86, passed away on March 11, 2023, in Gun Barrel City, TX. She was born on September 1, 1936 in Knoxville, TN to parents Ottis and Pauline (Webb) Wilson.

Loretta Janice Wilson McDade was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on September 1, 1936 to Polly and Ottis Wilson. She was their only child.

She grew up in Knoxville and married her high school sweetheart, John in 1956. They had two daughters, Jan and Mindy. They lived in Charleston, WVa and Tampa, Florida before moving to Dallas, in 1973.

John and Loretta fled the corporate world in 1977 and bought a small run-down nursery in Tool at Cedar Creek Lake. They      managed to turn it into a thriving, successful small business with many, many long days. They lived on the lake in Hidden Harbor where family and friends enjoyed numerous happy times on the water.

They retired in 2001, moved to Cedar Creek Country Club, bought an RV and began spending the summers in Colorado. They enjoyed many great trips with friends and family and especially loved   camping with grandsons Drew and Matthew.

Loretta loved to sing with the choir at Cedar Creek Lake UMC and    enjoyed helping with the annual bazaar. She was a member of the Women’s Club as well. She enjoyed sewing, swimming, playing cards, gardening and was an avid reader.

Loretta was shy, but she was fun loving and very adventurous. She went rafting in Colorado. Mindy and Chet treated her to one of the best zip line adventures in the country and she loved it. She adored the lake, the ocean and the mountains.

Loretta spent her last days at Cedar Creek Lodge where she met new friends and was doted on by a wonderful staff. Big shout out to all of you!

She is survived by daughters, Jan McDade and Mindy Marder, son Chet Marder. Grandsons Drew Marder and wife Lillian, Matthew Marder and wife Laura. Great grandchildren Madelyn, Eli, Mason and Mila. She is also survived by brothers and sisters-in law, Ed and Judy Morris, Jim McDade and Linda McDade Moseley. Nephews Bo Morris, Brad Morris, Chad McDade and niece Jenni Arnold. Best     lifelong friend, Jane Townsend.
