Katie Lynn Cook, age 69, passed away on August 24, 2025, in Tyler, Texas. She was born in Dallas, Texas on February 1, 1956, to parents Imogene Ethal (Carroll) and Robert Edward Cook, Sr.
Katie was truly a gem, a shining star with a heart as big as Texas, who left an unforgettable mark on everyone lucky enough to know her. Though she completed high school, higher education was important to Katie. She always pushed herself to learn more, showing everyone that it's never too late to strive for something greater. It was part of what made her who she was – always challenging herself, always aiming higher.
Katie's life was one of dedication and hard work. She was the kind of person who didn’t just get by, she excelled at every job. For years, Katie managed a 7-11, bringing a smile to the faces of countless customers. She went on to spend an impressive 20 years at Walmart, proving to be an irreplaceable team member before ultimately retiring.
Katie had a wide range of interests that brought her happiness. She treasured her time indulging in Elvis records, losing herself in books, and watching reruns of Perry Mason and heartwarming Hallmark Channel films. She also enjoyed the challenge of jigsaw puzzles and liked going shopping. Animals held a special place in her heart, and she was a loving companion to her dogs, Brownie and Mira, as well as her cat, Smokie Joe.
Katie was a proud Dallas Cowboys fan, and her love for the team was matched only by her faith. Sundays were reserved for listening to church, where she found comfort and community. Katie had a deep appreciation for life’s comforts, enjoying delicious meals of chicken and dumplings and biscuits and gravy. She also loved cutting up and laughing, particularly with her beloved sister, Lisa.
Katie spent the past decade embracing life with boundless joy, surrounded by the warmth of her cherished family and friends. She radiated laughter and love, facing every challenge with grace, compassion, and an unwavering heart.
Katie is preceded in death by her sister, Gina Evens; mother, Genie Hedge; father, Robert Cook; grandmother, Ruth Carroll; grandfather, Arthur Carroll; aunt and uncle, Virginia and Robert Webb; aunt and uncle, Barbara and Henry Dunning; aunt and uncle, Ricky and Sharon Carroll; uncle, Roy Carroll; and uncle, Sammy Carroll, Sr.
Katie is survived by a large, loving family and friends.
