John Lawrence Miller

Mabank, Texas

John Lawrence Miller, age 63, passed away on August 9, 2025, in Tyler, Texas. He was born on December 12, 1961, in Dallas, Texas, to parents Lawrence and Carolyn (Gann) Miller.

John was a lifelong resident of Texas, where he graduated from D.W. Carter High School in 1980. His journey through life was marked by a big personality, a vibrant spirit and an undeniable work ethic. Self-employed for most of his adult life, John was a natural salesman who could sell anything and everything. He had a unique ability to connect with people, making friends wherever he went. He was truly one of a kind.

John was also a man who loved to create lasting memories with his family. The countless road trips and vacations they took together were often chaotic, but they were always filled with fun and laughter. John had a heartwarming way of filling every moment with joy, and his infectious laughter would light up any room.

He met his wife, Cheryl, when they were just eight years old, neighbors and close friends. After some time apart, they found their way back to each other in high school and remained together ever since. Their bond stood as a testament to love enduring throughout the years.

John took immense pride in being a grandfather, often bragging about his grandkids. He was also a keen gun enthusiast and cherished the conversations he shared about firearms with his son, son-in-law, and anyone else who matched his interest.

Among his many hobbies, John loved riding four-wheelers, particularly in the mountains, as well as enjoying country drives on scenic back roads. He delighted in spending time with family and friends, showcasing a personality that was full of life. John never met a stranger and always made sure to leave those he encountered with a smile. John’s dachshunds, Ruby and Jimmy, were his favorite four-legged companions.

John committed his life to the Lord and felt that publicly professing his faith through baptism was the most significant decision he ever made.

John is preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Miller; mother, Carolyn Gann Matherly; and brother, Jeffrey Miller.

John is survived by his wife, Cheryl Miller of Mabank, Texas; daughter, Amanda Sparks and husband Brian of Bullard, Texas; son, Jonathan Miller of Chandler, Texas; daughter, Jennifer Myers and husband Jason of Severance, Colorado; granddaughter, Peyton Flores of Mabank, Texas; granddaughter, Kamryn Flores of Tyler, Texas; granddaughter, Kynzi Dougherty and husband Coby of Mabank, Texas; granddaughter, Reese Myers of Jacksonville, Texas; granddaughter, Harper Myers of Severance, Colorado; granddaughter, Sawyer Myers of Severance, Colorado; brother, Mark Miller of Seagoville, Texas; sister, Michelle Fletcher and husband Keith of Sherman, Texas; as well as numerous family, friends, and loved ones.
