Joel "Joe" Goodson

Joel "Joe" Goodson, age 75, passed away on July 12, 2026, in Canton, Texas. He was born in Texas City, Texas on October 31, 1950, to parents Jack and Odessa (Murrell) Goodson.

Joe graduated from Lufkin High School and spent 30 years working for Trees Inc. He later worked as a consulting utility forester for ACRT Company, a role he proudly and passionately held until his passing.

Joe was one of those people who showed he cared in his own way. He had a dry sense of humor, loved to be sarcastic, and could make people laugh—or shake their heads. He wasn't one for big speeches, but anyone who knew Joe knew he had a generous heart and would give the shirt off his back.

Joe's family meant everything to him. He was proud of his children and grandchildren and loved his wife Wanda deeply. He was happiest at home, especially sitting on the back porch, enjoying the quiet. He was also a proud cat dad.

Joe loved spending time outdoors fishing, deer hunting and golfing. He enjoyed watching westerns, golf, baseball, and football—although everyone knew not to say, "Roll Tide!" around him. He was the family's unofficial weatherman, enjoyed a good cigar, and was known for making chili and his barbecue sauce.

Some of the best memories of Joe are the little things. After Thanksgiving lunch, he'd hide the banana pudding so the kids couldn't take it home. He'd call Gran from the other room just to ask if it was "ice cream time". Those small moments brought a lot of laughs and are the memories Joe’s family will always hold onto.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Odessa Goodson; sister, Jackie Collins; stepdaughter, Tina Perkins; and in-laws, Dal and Ruby Smith.

Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Wanda Goodson of Mabank, Texas; daughter, Sandy Walsh of Marshall, Texas; daughter, Kristen Tackett and husband Rick of Marshall, Texas; daughter, Brooke Goodson of Marshall, Texas; stepson, Bobby Davis and wife Kim of Stevenson, Alabama; stepdaughter, Leslie Green and husband James of Gun Barrel City, Texas; grandson, Bradley Tullos of Pflugerville, Texas; grandson, Seth Monroy and wife Abby of Katy, Texas; grandson, Benjamin Tackett of Katy, Texas; grandson Cameron Gibson of Marshall, Texas; granddaughter, Sydney Walsh of Marshall, Texas; grandson, Luke Goodson of Marshall, Texas; granddaughter, Jacey McElwee and husband James of Payne Springs, Texas; granddaughter, Kipany Mires and husband Keith of Athens, Texas; granddaughter, Peyton Davis of Flagstaff, Arizona; grandson, AJ Davis of Stevenson, Alabama; grandson, Jake and wife April Davis of Stevenson, Alabama; and several great-grandkids; along with his family, many cherished friends and co-workers who were loved like family.
