Helen M. Raasch, 100, of Payne Springs, Texas, passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2021, at home.
Helen Monica Long was born on November 10, 1921, in Lone Rock, Iowa, daughter of Arthur and Catherine (Eich) Long.
She served as a Yeoman First Class in the Navy from September 1943 until July 1950. On June 5, 1948, she was united in marriage to William Harold Raasch. They went to Oklahoma A&M (Oklahoma State University,) then moved to Texas in 1954. She was a devoted Catholic and was an active member of Good Shepherd and St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Churches in Garland, Texas, as well as St. Jude Catholic Church in Gun Barrel City, Texas.
Her family includes her children Patty Raasch of Gun Barrel City, Texas, Marian Mooneyhan (David) of Garland, Texas, Sharon Moody of Garland, Texas, Raymond Raasch of Dallas, Texas, Monica Jones of Gun Barrel City, Texas, and Berneice Raasch of Gun Barrel City, Texas; siblings Alice Long and Joseph Long (Rita) of North Liberty, Iowa; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother Richard Long; sister Mary Ford and brother-in-law Edmond Ford; son David Raasch; daughter Caroline Stewart; son-in-law Robert Moody; and great-grandchild Caroline Moody.
