Reverend Dewain Mixon, 74, passed away on September 1, 2024, in Eustace, Texas. He was born on October 10, 1949, in Lamesa, Texas to parents G.C. and Kodene Mixon.
Dewain graduated from Eustace High School where he excelled in basketball and baseball. Not long after, he began his ministry in which he pastored several churches in addition to evangelizing and working multiple jobs, including a successful career in Law Enforcement.
In 1981, he founded and grew Faith Tabernacle Church in Eustace, Texas, from a small storefront building into a new building as God had envisioned him. After some time there, he pastored for a few years in Colorado. Upon his return to Texas, he took up pastorship at Phalba Full Gospel Church and remained there until his retirement. After retiring, he continued actively evangelizing and preaching in various churches.
Dewain was an outgoing, happy, and friendly preacher who was loved by all those he met (except those filled with the Devil!) but, being full of the Holy Ghost, he helped to change those hearts as well.
He had many great memories, including pastoring at Rock Hill Pentecostal Church, where he met and married Trena Ann George, his wife of 45 years. In 1979, Dewain preached a four-week brush arbor revival at Round Flat Pentecostal Church, where many were saved, delivered, healed, and filled with the Holy Ghost. He also enjoyed the outdoors and spent time fishing, hunting, and camping - memories his boys will never forget.
Reverend Mixon had a wide outreach, extending far beyond the United States. He preached in many countries, including Jamaica, Canada, England, Hong Kong, Denmark, and Sweden. He also baptized people in the River Jordan in Israel and took communion at the empty tomb of Jesus.
In 2009,Dewain received an honorary Doctorate Degree from the United Graduate College and Seminary College at Jonesborough, Tennessee.
Dewain is preceded in death by his parents, G.C. and Kodene Mixon and Peggy Mixon, son Jimmy Dewain Mixon, daughter Suzzane Sumrall, son-in-law David Sumrall, and nephew David Wayne Lowery.
He is survived by his wife, Trena Mixon and sister Jean Lowery. He also leaves behind sons Grover Lee (Chastity) Mixon, Robert (Beth) Mixon, Stephen (Heather) Mixon, and Jamie (Angie) George, and niece and nephew Christy Ridgle and John Lowery. His extended surviving family includes 19 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
