Gene Lynn Rains, age 76, of Malakoff, Texas, passed away on March 4, 2026. Gene was born on December 30, 1949, in McCook, Nebraska, to parents Roy and Ruby (Burks) Rains.
Gene was a proud graduate of Stratton High School and went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Air Force, where he retired as a Chief Master Sergeant (CMSGT). His military career was marked by numerous awards, accolades, and medals, highlighting his dedication and service.
Gene was a devoted father, grandpa, and great-grandpa, relishing the moments spent watching his children and grandchildren grow. One of his proudest accomplishments was celebrating numerous graduations in his family, a testament to his commitment to education and support for those he loved. He was also thrilled by the birth of his great-grandson, an event that brought immense joy to his life.
In addition to his family, Gene was known as an awesome leader, mentor, and friend to all he encountered. Gene enjoyed an array of hobbies that included reading and tackling sudoku puzzles, but his favorite moments were always spent with family. He cherished the laughter and love that filled the time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandson, often prioritizing those moments above all else.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Ruby Rains.
Gene is survived by his wife, Melanie Rains of Malakoff, Texas; son, Chad Rains of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Renee Rains of Washington; son, Jeremy French of Malakoff, Texas; daughter, Jessica French of Log Cabin, Texas; granddaughters, Mackenzie Campbell of Colorado’ Madison French of Malakoff, Texas; and Chloe French of Mabank, Texas; grandson, Breiden Grubbs of Log Cabin, Texas; great-grandson, Cayston of Mabank, Texas; brother, Gerald Rains and Mary Ellen of New Mexico; sister, Linda Brennan of Nebraska, brother, Rich Rains and husband Rhaine of Colorado, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family, friends, and loved ones.
There will be a gathering following the inurnment at Quality Suites, Hwy 198 & 175 Mabank, Texas 75147
