Erma Aline Smith

September 7, 1938 — July 14, 2025

Eustace, Texas

Erma Aline Smith, age 86, passed away on July 14, 2025, in Tyler, Texas. She was born on September 7, 1938, in Stonewall County, Texas to parents Marvin and Erma (Green) Brasher.

Aline, her sister, and two brothers pulled cotton for their daddy. She was a hard worker and very strong. Aline married her husband Wayne at the age of 15, where they spent the first three months of their life together living in a railroad train box car that her daddy owned until they could move into a very small shack that Wayne’s daddy had. 63 years later, Wayne passed away. Aline was always faithful and content.

Wayne and Aline loved to go to Colorado and camp in a cabin every year for many years with kinfolk, they enjoyed camping and cooking out. Aline was a very good cook, she loved to cook and feed people. She also loved to sew, and to sew for others at no charge.

Aline was always a lady in every way. She never smoked, drank any alcohol, we’ve never heard her curse, or speak badly about anyone. She taught us boys that if you can’t say anything good, then don’t say anything. (We didn’t listen).

Aline was and is a Christian, she got saved early in her life as a young lady. She attended China Grove Baptist Church and later joined First Baptist Church of Eustace. Aline was and is a child of God and the bride of Christ. Her light did shine for Jesus.

Aline loved everybody and everybody loved her. She raised 3 boys, a husband, two brothers, and many other people because she was a mother in the hearts of many people. Aline will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Aline is preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Erma Brasher; husband, Henry Wayne Smith; and granddaughter, Angela Richardson.

Aline is survived by her sons, Johnny Smith and wife Vicki of Lufkin, Texas; Billy Smith and wife Junella of Tool, Texas; and Gary Smith and wife Becki of Eustace, Texas; brothers, Carl Brasher and wife Pat of Jacksonville, Texas and Cecil Brasher and wife Patti of Jacksonville, Texas; sister, Molly Ward and husband Donald of Seminole, Texas; grandchildren, John Smith and wife Nancy of Lufkin, Texas, Danny Smith and wife Toyna of Eustace, Texas, Shelby Johnson and husband Jerome of Lufkin, Texas, Becky Woods and husband Danny of Tool, Texas, and Jeff Smith and wife Carolyn of College Station, Texas; 20 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family, friends, and loved ones.
