Edward John Schilling, age 85, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026.
Born on May 30, 1941, Edward lived a life marked by love, hard work, creativity, and unwavering devotion to his family. He was a man of quiet strength, integrity, and kindness whose gentle spirit touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Edward proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Military Police officer from January 20, 1959, until his honorable discharge on March 1, 1962. Following his military service, he built a career as a professional truck driver, working for Big 3 Trucking and Buttercrust Trucking Company. Later, he served his community as a driver for a local funeral home, a role that reflected his compassion and respect for others during life's most difficult moments.
A gifted artist and craftsman, Edward found great joy in working with his hands. His woodworking skills produced countless treasured pieces, including shelves, quilt racks, handcrafted Christmas decorations, and beautifully carved glass bottles that will continue to be cherished by his family for years to come. He also had an incredible talent for drawing portraits. His creativity, patience, and attention to detail were evident in every project he completed, leaving behind not only beautiful works of art but lasting memories for those he loved.
Above all else, Edward's greatest pride and joy was his family. He shared a loving life with his beloved wife, Sandra Elizabeth Schilling, whose companionship and love were a constant source of happiness throughout the years. He was a proud and devoted father to his daughters, Nicole Schilling and Roberta Schilling Poehl (husband, Demois), and to his son, Jeffery Schilling (wife, Jamee). He was also blessed with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immeasurable pride and joy. His love, guidance, wisdom, and gentle presence will remain with them always.
Edward leaves behind a legacy of service, hard work, compassion, creativity, and unconditional love. He believed life's greatest blessings were found in family, helping others, and creating something meaningful with his own hands. His family will forever cherish the memories, lessons, and love he shared throughout his remarkable life.
Though his passing leaves an emptiness that cannot be filled, those who loved him find comfort in knowing his legacy lives on through the family he adored, the lives he touched, and the many handcrafted treasures he leaves behind.
In honor of Edward's life, the family encourages everyone to celebrate life every day by spending time with those you love, sharing stories, making memories, and never taking a single moment for granted. This is the legacy he would want to leave behind.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in Edward's honor to the charity of your choice. May your gift help continue the spirit of compassion, generosity, and kindness that Edward shared throughout his life.
Edward John Schilling will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
