Earl Vinson Davis, age 97, of Malakoff, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026. He was born in Powell, Texas, on February 5, 1929, to Ben and Edna (Vinson) Davis.
Earl is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Edna; his sister, Venetia Jobe Dodd; his beloved wife, Frances (Hemphill) Davis; their son, Robert Davis; and their first grandson, Robert Ryan Roark.
He is survived by his daughter, Sherry Nelson; son, James Davis, and his wife, Leanne; daughter, Carol Rayford, and her husband, Steven; granddaughters Davina Barnhart, Tiffany Linebaugh, and Alisha Gober; grandsons Brian Rayford, Matthew Rayford, Mark Rayford, Blake Nelson, Charles Nelson, and Caden Davis; great‑grandsons Sonny and Charles; and great‑granddaughters Byrdee, Dovey, Lockee, Goldie, Evelyn, Kira, and Alexis.
During his military service, Earl earned the Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB), a distinction awarded to infantrymen and Special Forces soldiers who personally engaged in active ground combat. After his service, he built a long and steady career as a mechanic, working for Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. in Grand Prairie, Texas, for 35 years.
Earl was a man of deep faith. He attended Lakeview Baptist Church in Grand Prairie, Texas, and after moving to Cedar Creek Lake, he became a member of Caney Creek Baptist Church. His faith guided him throughout his life, and he spent many hours in prayer with his family and loved ones.
In his later years, Earl enjoyed the quiet rhythm of country life. He spent his days tinkering with computers, tending to small projects, and finding joy in the companionship of his beloved dogs, Hoss and Shady. He was deeply loved by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
In accordance with their wishes, both Earl’s and Frances’s ashes will be laid to rest together on the grave of their son, Robert Davis.
Earl lived a long, full life marked by service, devotion, and a steadfast love for his family. His legacy continues in the generations who carry his name, his stories, and his strength.
