Dorothy Louise Hunter

Dorothy Louise Hunter, 86, passed away on September 29, 2020.  She was born on June 10, 1934, in Athens, Texas, to the home of Ealy Nelson Ballard and Gladys Jewel Eddleman Ballard.

Dorothy Hunter, the wife of J.J. Hunter, was a woman who was the mother to four sons, John Hunter, Chris Hunter, Jay Hunter, and Jeff Hunter.  She was a stay at home mom and enjoyed working in her vegetable garden, mowing the grass, and caring for her plants and flowers.  She had a love for animals, especially her cats Roscoe, George, Bethany, Stormy, and Cleo.

During her life, Dorothy loved to babysit children.  She was a member of First Baptist Church of Mabank, where she taught Sunday school for the two and three-year-olds for several years, then became a Sunday school teacher for the toddlers and worked in the Nursery for several years.  She also helped with VBS (Vacation Bible School) with the two and three-year-olds.  She also worked several years in the Nursery for the Presbyterian church in Mabank.

Dorothy was a member of Tops.  She enjoyed sending out cards, whether for a birthday, thinking of you, friendship, Christmas, etc.  Whatever the occasion, she had a card on hand.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, husband J.J. Hunter, and brother W.D. (Willie D) Ballard.

She is survived by her four sons John Curtis Hunter and wife Judy of Mabank; Robert Christopher Hunter of Mabank; Jeffrey Craig Hunter of Fresno, California; and Joseph Jay Hunter and wife Faith of Austin, Texas; three grandchildren Jessica French of Tool, Brandon Hunter and wife Mackenzie of Longview, and Tiffany Hunter of Mabank; two great-grandchildren Breiden Grubbs of Tool, and Oran Hunter of Longview; one sister Jo Stone and husband Arliss of Grand Saline, and two sister-in-laws Jessie Ballard of Dallas, and Dorothy Stoval of Point, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
