Dorothy Earlene Mason Rolison

May 6, 1942 — January 19, 2026

Irving, Texas

Dorothy Earlene Rolison, age 83, of Irving, Texas, passed away on January 19, 2026. She was born in Arkansas County, Arkansas, on May 6, 1942, to parents, Earl Lee and Dorothy Irene Mason. She passed away peacefully in her home, where she had resided for 53 years.

Dorothy had several jobs here and there, until she found her calling at bartending. After the passing of her father, Dorothy took on some of the family responsibilities, along with her sister Ruth. Later in her life she took in and even brought in girlfriends into her home who were down on their luck.

In her amazing life she owned and operated 4 bars in Dallas, the first one being The Idle Hour, then The Triple Nickle, Inwood Lounge, and finally DD’s Corner. She had lived in several places until she found her permanent home in Irving in 1962. On New Year’s Eve she would have the New Year’s Eve Party at her bar with lots of food, drinks, dancing, and fellowship.

Dorothy was married to her husband, James Darrell Rolison for 36 years before his passing. She and Darrell loved BBQ contests, where they made lots of memories and made lots of friends, and won lots of awards. Dorothy competed in chicken and pinto beans.

After retiring at 70, Dorothy learned how to use a computer (she always said once she retired, she will learn the computer). She even helped others at the Senior Center with computer questions. Dorothy also wanted to learn about investing her money. She would read the newspaper and drink her coffee every morning and faithfully read Scott Burns financial article about investing. She traveled with family and friends in 2020 to Italy and that’s where she was photographed at the Vatican with the Pope. Dorothy took her first cruise in 2019 with her son and wife. She took several road trips with her sisters. Dorothy loved walking the block with her dog Penny every morning while greeting her neighbors, which she did up until 3 months prior to her passing.

Dorothy was a wonderful wife, mother, and sister, she will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Dorothy Mason; and husband, James Darrell Rolison.

Dorothy is survived by her son, David Robert Powell and wife Christina of Irving, Texas; two sisters, Lura Ruth Glasscock of Gun Barrel City, Texas, and Tami Kearns and husband Randy of Seven Points, Texas; step-children, Vickie, Debbie, Dwana, Kevin, and Jerry; as well numerous nieces, nephews, family, friends and loved ones.
