Dora Belle Walker

Dora Belle Walker passed away peacefully on August 28, 2023, at her home. She was born January 31, 1931, to Milton Lyons and Marion Ida (Boski) Jones in East St. Louis, Illinois. She resided in Alamogordo from August 1963 to December 2018. She married William J. (Buck) Walker in 1955, and they had 3 sons.

Dora graduated from St. Teresa Academy in East St. Louis Illinois in 1949. She worked in St. Louis, MO, Whittier CA, and          Wikes-Barre, PA prior to coming to Alamogordo, NM with her husband’s work. Dora started Civil Service in 1967 at Holloman AFB NM, as a clerk-steno GS-3, and worked up to GS-6 division secretary. She then converted to Management Assistant as GS-7 to handle the Biennual Guidance Test Symposia, which were research and development meetings between participants from military, industry, foreign nations, and NATO. In 1986 she was selected as Holloman’s Outstanding “Woman of the year” for her grade level. She retired in 1994 after 27 years with Civil Service at Holoman AFB NM with the 6585th Test Group Division. She was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church as PSR teacher (1965-1968), Paris Council secretary, Eucharistic Minister (mostly for hospital patients), and severed several years in the annual Fiesta.

In December 2018, her health beginning to decline, she decided she would sell her house and move in with John’s family in Mabank, TX. Then the Corona virus came to town, however, she went on to have both her knees replaced and life came back to her.

Dora is preceded in death by her parents; sons, John Phillip, and Michael Wayne Walker; brothers, Stan W. Jones, and Milt L. Jones, sisters-in-law; Patsy and Patricia Jones; nephews, Jason Baligad, John Jones, James Jones.

Dora is survived by her son, Robert Keith Walker of La Luz NM; daughter-in-law, Keron Dee (Bannerman) Walker of Mabank, TX; four grandchildren, Brandi Lynn Walker, Johnny P. Walker Jr., Michael W. Walker Jr., and Karen Joy (Casey) Jones; five great-grandchildren, Austin McRight of Dallas, TX; Pretti Walker of Mabank, TX; Kodin Michael Jones and Kylie Nicole Jones of Portales NM: Lexi Walker of Princeton, TX; and one sister, Mary Alice (Joaquin) Baligad of Anaheim CA; numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
