Delia Ortega Lopez, age 86, passed away on the morning of Saturday, May 3, 2025, surrounded by family at her home in Tool, Texas. She was born on February 10, 1939, in Rockwood, Texas, to parents Esteban and Maria Ortega.
Delia was the kind of woman who gave endlessly whether it was a hot plate of homemade food, a reality check you didn’t know you needed, or simply her presence: steady, loyal, and larger than life. She was unapologetically herself.
Delia found joy in the simple things: her cats curled up around her, the constant buzz of her favorite TV shows (especially Caso Cerrado and her novelas), her garden full of flowers, and the comforting rhythm of a sewing needle in hand. If you ever came through her door hungry, you didn’t stay that way for long. She cooked like it was her love language and fed more souls than she probably realized.
Delia didn’t lead a quiet life, and she wouldn’t have wanted a quiet legacy. She was a force - sometimes misunderstood, always unforgettable. The kind of woman you’d argue with one minute and defend to the end of the earth the next. Her love was fierce, her presence grounding, and her absence now, nearly impossible to imagine.
Delia was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 50 years, Salvador Lopez, Sr., her parents, her siblings, and her son Ruben Lopez, each of whom she carried with her in memory and strength.
Delia is survived by her children: Salvador Lopez, Jr., Sicilia Lopez, Steven Lopez, Selia Lopez, Bobby Lopez, and Lorena Lopez. She also leaves behind her granddaughter Amy Mendoza, whom she lovingly raised as her own.
In addition to her children, Delia is survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved her deeply and will carry her spirit forward. She also leaves behind extended family members whose lives she touched in countless ways. Though not all names are listed here, each one held a special place in her heart. Delia’s legacy lives on in every laugh they share, every meal they cook, every flower they plant, every stitch sewn, and every story they pass down.
She was one of a kind and she was ours.
