Dawn Elaina Ellis-Kortes

July 18, 1966 — September 17, 2017

Dawn Elaina Ellis-Kortes was born July 18th 1966 to Tommy and Jo Ellis.  Dawn went home to be with the Lord on September 17th 2017. She was 51.

She is survived by her sons Trent and Chris Kortes, her stepchildren Shawn and Melissa Kortes, her mother Jo Atkinson, her sister Annette Widmer and husband Alan, her brother TJ Ellis and wife Lorrie and numerous loving relatives and countless friends.

Dawn is preceded in death by her father Tommy Ellis and her stepfather John “Pop” Askew.

Dawn was a dynamic woman! Independent, fearless and passionate about life!  She held her head high and never met a stranger. She was kind, compassionate, and generous. She loved to talk to people.. Any people. And if she wasn’t talking to people she was feeding them. No one ever left Dawn's house hungry!

In her early years, Dawn managed several hotels that she called “her corner of the world".  She achieved great success because failing was not an option.  Dawn's Gift of Gab and her love for people served her well both in the hotel business as well as in the later years of her career as a real estate agent and manager of H&R Block.

Her Legacy is the countless lives she touched. Every person she met took something special with them just for knowing her. She brought out the best version of anyone who was her friend. She was an encourager, a mentor, and the driving force behind many people who are successful today because Dawn believed in them!

There is no question the highlight of Dawn's life was the birth and lives of her son's Trent and Chris. Her love for her children was immeasurable!

The world lost the most special woman God ever created.  But we gained a fierce angel to watch over and protect us all.

Rest in peace Dawn

We will see you on the other side!

Rev. Dane Goode with Lakeside Baptist Church in Trinidad, Texas will be officiating for the Kortes family.
