David Randall Callison

March 8, 1979 — December 22, 2019

David Randall Callison was born March 8, 1979, and passed away on December 22, 2019, in a one-car accident.  He is survived by his loving family:  father, Randall Callison; mother, Kathleen King Callison; brother, John, sister-in-law, Alison and their daughter Anna Hart; and grandfather, Tonie Callison.  He was also surrounded by his aunts and uncles, along with many cousins.  David called this group his tribe; they all loved hearing his hiking and camping adventures.  David could tell a story!  He was a special-education teacher at Killough High School in the Lewisville School District.

David completed the Appalachian Trail on his birthday, March 8, 2018.  This arduous journey of 2,172 miles made him, family, and friends extremely proud.  He was an avid and accomplished fisherman and outdoorsman.  He was always admiring the beauty of the world, the change of seasons and weather, the magnificence of God’s creations, especially sunsets.  He knew what was best in life.

His trail name "Giggles" was given to him by his Texas music friends who enjoyed attending music festivals and concerts with him over the years.  A close friend once stated that his trail name and nickname “Giggles” was not because he laughed a lot, (although he did) but because his infectious laugh and upbeat personality always made others feel happy and perpetuated the laughter.  He loved to cook, especially for a crowd, brew beer, and listen to Texas country music.

A private celebration of life will take place in January.  David would be incredibly happy and proud if any donations were made to KNON Radio.  David was a volunteer and a big supporter of community radio.  The address is:  KNON Radio, Attention:  Mark Munday, 13154 Coit Road, Suite 200, Dallas, TX  75240.

As he came into this world to family and friends who loved him beyond imagination, he left an indelible print on the ones who knew him.  He left this world a better place because of his gift of life and the way he lived it.
