Charles Conrad Lohrmann

Major Charles Conrad Lohrmann, Ret., age 88, passed away on July 9, 2026, in Tyler, Texas. He was born in Michigan on June 2, 1938, to parents Kurt and Esther Lohrmann.

Charles proudly served his country for 20 years and retired as an Air Force Major. Following his retirement from the United States Air Force, Charles devoted himself to advancing the telecommunications industry, where he became a highly respected pioneer, educator, author, and mentor. He was among the early visionaries who helped develop and establish BICSI's Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) program, which has since become the industry's premier credential for telecommunications infrastructure design.

As a BICSI Master Instructor, Charles traveled extensively, sharing his knowledge and expertise with countless professionals preparing to earn their RCDD and other industry certifications. His passion for education and commitment to excellence shaped the careers of generations of telecommunications professionals.

Charles also played an instrumental role in developing BICSI's educational curriculum and authored or contributed to many of the organization's foundational technical manuals and textbooks, including publications covering telecommunications distribution methods, outside-plant design, and information technology systems installation. His technical expertise, dedication to education, and unwavering commitment to raising industry standards left an enduring legacy.

Through his teaching, writing, and generous mentorship, Charles helped establish many of the principles, standards, and best practices that continue to guide the telecommunications industry today. He will be remembered not only for his remarkable professional accomplishments, but also for his generosity in sharing his knowledge and his lasting influence on the countless individuals whose careers he inspired.

Charles is preceded in death by his sister, Ann(e) (nee Lohrmann); son, Paul Lohrmann; and wives, Connie, Vicki, Larue, Alice, and Judy Lohrmann.

Charles is survived by his wife, Diane Lohrmann; son, Kurt Lohrmann and wife Anne; son, Ross Lohrmann; step-daughter, Kristina and husband David & family, Knapp; grandchildren, Sarah Lohrmann, and Matthew Lohrmann; great-grandson, Zayne Lohrmann; brother, David and wife Julie; sister, Jane Lohrmann; as well as numerous other family, friends, and loved ones.

A memorial service will be held at St. John Lutheran Church of Athens with inurnment to follow at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at a date to be determined.
