CECIL LOUISE GETMAN TAYLOR

February 7, 1923 — December 23, 2017

CECIL LOUISE GETMAN TAYLOR PASSED AWAY PEACEFULLY AT THE CEDAR LAKE NURSING HOME AT 9:34 PM, DECEMBER 23, 2017, WITH HER SON BY HER SIDE.  SHE WAS 94 YEARS OLD.  CECIL WAS BORN IN CHETOPA, KS TO ETHEL MAE YOUNG GETMAN AND LEVI GETMAN ON FEBRUARY 7, 1923.

SHE HAD 2 BROTHERS AND 7 SISTERS.  CECIL MARRIED JAMES LONZO BENNETT AND THE COUPLE HAD THREE CHILDREN, SON, ALONZO ALVIN (BOOGIE) BENNETT OF MABANK, TX, DAUGHTER, ROSEANN TYLER, OF SEVEN POINTS, TX, AND DAUGHTER, JOANNE TYREE OF WEISER, ID. CECIL HAD 9 GRANDCHILDREN, SHERRIE BLAYLOCK, RAMONA REEVES, MARK BENNETT, JAMES TYLER, MORGAN TYLER, DEBBIE BERGES, LORI ALREAD AND RICHARD TYREE. CECIL HAD 22 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN, AND 31 GREAT GREAT GRANDCHILDREN.

CECIL WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HER PARENTS, LEVI GETMAN, AND ETHEL MAE GETMAN, AND SIBLINGS, CHARLIE J GETMAN, ELI NOAH GETMAN, LAURA MAY GETMAN MCCORMICK, LYDIA MCCORMICK, HADDIE GETMAN, GRACIE GETMAN, ROSIE GETMAN, AND MABLE MAY GETMAN, HER DAUGHTER-IN-LAW BESSIE LEA BENNETT, HER SON-IN-LAW, RAY TYLER, HER SON-IN-LAW, LUTHER TYREE, AND HER GRANDDAUGHTER, EMMA MELINDA BLEDSOE.  SHE HAD ONE LIVING SISTER, NELLIE BUSICK.

AS A YOUNG WOMAN, ALL THAT MET CECIL DESCRIBED HER AS FRIENDLY, KIND, AND ALWAYS HAPPY.  GRANDMA CECIL LOVED THE FINER THINGS IN LIFE. SHE ONCE HAD A BLACK CADILAC THAT HAD “SPECIAL ORDERED, GOLD TRIM” ON THE EXTERIOR OF THE CAR.  ON ONE OCCASION GRANDMA WAS PULLED OVER BY A PATROL OFFICER AND HER RADAR DETECTOR WAS GOING OFF, THE OFFICER ASKED WHAT THE NOISE WAS AND GRANDMA SAID, “I DON’T KNOW, I CAN’T GET IT TO STOP”. HE THEN ASKED HER FOR HER LICENSE AND REGISTRATION AND SHE FIDGETED WITH HER SEAT BELT FOR AWHILE AND COULD NOT SEEM TO GET IT OFF, GRANDMA THEN TOLD THE OFFICER HE COULD GO AROUND TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE CAR AND GET HER REGISTRATION OUT OF HER GLOVE BOX AND THE OFFICER JUST SAID, “DON’T WORRY ABOUT IT, JUST SLOW DOWN”.

GRANDMA LOVED BEING OUTDOORS, TENDING TO HER PLANTS, AND FLOWERS. SHE DID HAVE A GREEN THUMB.  SHE WAS NOT AFRAID TO TAKE A PINCH OFF A PLANT WHEN WALKING BY “A PLACE OF BUSINESS” AND WHEN YOU WOULD SAY SOMETHING TO HER ABOUT IT, SHE WOULD SAY’ “THAT PIECE WAS ALREADY BROKEN OFF THE PLANT”.

YOU COULD ALWAYS COUNT ON SEEING GRANDMA PARKED AT THE KITCHEN TABLE DURING HOLIDAY GATHERINGS FOR WHAT SEEMED LIKE HOURS ON END, WITH A CONSTANT FLOW OF FOOD AND SWEETS.  IT WAS ALWAYS A SIGHT TO SEE FOR SOMEONE LESS THAN A BUCK TWENTY-FIVE TO BE PUTTING AWAY THE FOOD LIKE A LINE BACKER FOR THE DALLAS COWBOYS.

WHEN GRANDMA WAS GETTING ON IN AGE, (BEFORE SHE STOPPED DRIVING), GRANDMA PULLED FORWARD INTO HER GARAGE ONLY TO DISCOVER SHE WAS NOT PULLED IN STRAIGHT, SO GRANDMA MADE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO STRAIGHTEN THE CAR OUT, HOWEVER, SHE HAD TO FINALLY CALL THE NEIGHBOR OVER TO GET HER CAR OUT OF THE GARAGE BECAUSE WHEN SHE LOOKED IN HER REARVIEW MIRROR SHE COULD SEE THE BACK WALL OF HER GARAGE.

GRANDMA ALWAYS PROVIDED ENTERTAINMENT IN SOME  FORM OR FASHION TO OUR ENJOYMENT.  GRANDMA WAS A BELOVED DAUGHTER, WIFE, MOTHER, SISTER, GRANDMOTHER, AND FRIEND WHO WILL BE GREATLY MISSED.
