Anthony Due West

July 17, 1950 — June 21, 2025

Gun Barrel City, Texas

Anthony Due West, 74, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at his residence in Gun Barrel City, TX.

Due, as he was always known, was born on July 17, 1950, to Robert (Bob) and Lorraine (Pete) West in Dallas, TX. He was the youngest of three siblings, with older sisters Cassandra and Victoria. Coming from a lineage of Texas pioneers and land surveyors, his father named him Due West -- perhaps to help set a direction for his only son. In any case, the name was unique. It was an everlasting link to his heritage and one that anyone he encountered rarely forgot.

Due was a proud Dallasite, living his entire life in or near Dallas. While growing up, his father served as the long-time elected Dallas County Land Surveyor, giving Due the opportunity to explore the halls of the Old Red Dallas County Courthouse and gain a unique perspective of a booming Dallas during the 1950s and ’60s.

He graduated from Bryan Adams High School, Class of 1968. He cherished his classmates and the memories from those years. In his youth, he often worked on and rode motorcycles until a near-fatal accident ended his riding days. He later channeled that passion into owning and maintaining various classic American muscle cars.

In 1971, Due married Rebecca (Becky) Womack, and they had a son, Anthony Due West II. Although the marriage lasted only a few years, Due remained a dedicated father, imparting his love of history, cars, and adventure to his son.

Due held various jobs, including several stints as a land surveyor, following in his family’s footsteps. However, his proudest accomplishment was building and operating a golf driving range in Sunnyvale, TX, with his second wife, Pamela (Pam) Scott. Due and Pam were married in 1987. He lovingly supported Pam through multiple bouts of cancer until her passing in 1989.

In 1995, Due married Mary Kay Near and later adopted her son, Christopher (Chris). They divorced in 2010 after nearly 15 years of marriage.

In his final years, Due moved to Gun Barrel City, TX, near Cedar Creek Reservoir, about an hour southeast of Dallas.

Due will be remembered as someone who never met a stranger. He was quick to strike up a conversation with anyone on any topic, point out something funny, and share his opinion. He loved traveling -- especially road trips with no set schedule. Over a lifetime filled with a spirit of adventure, he rode motorcycles, raced cars on drag strips and dirt tracks, ran for public office multiple times, built a successful golf business, and enjoyed photography, snow skiing, and SCUBA diving.

He is survived by his sister Victoria Granberry with husband Rod and their children and grandchildren; his son, Due West with wife Melinda and their two children Isabella and Ethan; and his son, Chris West with wife Michelle and their three children Kayla, Caitlyn, and Rylie.

In accordance with his wishes, no formal services will be held.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Senior Connect, supporting a cause close to his heart. Donation can be made online at the following link:
