Alice Faye Hill

September 9, 1938 — February 2, 2021

Alice Faye Hill passed away on February 2, 2021, in the loving arms of her two daughters Sherri Lynn Barnes and Terri Lee Haney.  She was born at Methodist Hospital in Dallas, Texas, on September 9, 1938, to Thelma Lee Mullins and Lloyd Mullins.  She has been a lifelong Texas resident, spending much of her time in Houston, Dallas, Mesquite, and finally settling in Terrell, Texas, where she lived for 44 years.

Very early in her life, she found the love of her life, Billy, Sr.  They married young at 18 and 16 years of age and started their family right away while also raising her cousin and several of her husband’s siblings at the same time.  She and her husband additionally went on to raise and support several other children through their lifetime.

Alice was always a hard worker.  Early on, when she and Billy started their family, Alice stayed home to raise their children.  Once her youngest child was in school, her first job was making drumsticks.  She then moved on to a career in the optical business;  Hensel, Omega, and Associated Optical to name a few.  Later in life, she decided it was time to hang up the 9-5 and went back to caring for her brood.  She took care of her first great-grandchild during the week while her parents worked.  Undeniably this was likely one of her favorite “jobs!”

Alice was mama to her own children, but was simply known as “granny” to all others.  She never met a stranger and was the first one to welcome others into her and her husband’s home with a home-cooked meal and the best hugs ever.  She loved all of her kids, grandkids, and family more than anything on this earth.  She never saw a fault in anyone, and no matter what, she was there to guide and love all those she was in contact with.  As beautiful as she was on the outside, her inside was even more so.  She was always the light on a dark day.  She is one of a kind, with a heart made of pure gold, and she will be sorely missed.

She loved to be outside.  She and Billy spent their days taking care of their 10-acre farm and garden and ending their days in the swing together under the big tree in the back yard.  She absolutely loved Sunday under that tree with as many people around as possible.  Sunday dinners were always her biggest joy; she wanted everyone who could show up to be there. You could always bet money that there would be a pot of beans on the stove and a cake baked each and every Sunday…no matter what else was on the menu.  Everyone left her house with a full belly and likely some to take home.  She also made sure there was an abundance of sweets for her sweet grandbabies.  The candy bowl overfloweth!  Same with the soda pop fridge!  And the parents couldn’t tell the kids no at granny’s house…needless to say, she had a bunch of happy grandbabies.

Alice spent the last few years of her life doing what she was born to do…caring for another, her husband, Billy, Sr.  She was with him through it all…till death do them part.  She never left his side, nor him hers, and now they are reunited, sitting under the tree in their swing, continuing to watch over their loved ones until they are reunited again.

She is survived by daughters Sherri Lynn Barnes and husband Jack Barnes, Terri Lee Haney, bonus sons Douglas Craig Haney and Brian Earl Sanderford, sisters-in-love Evenly Phillips, Shirley Chumley, Marie Dillon, Mary Dillon, and Cecilia Kessler.  Alice is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, many, many friends, and bonus family members.

Alice is preceded in death by her grandparents, her parents Thelma Lattig and Lloyd Mullins, her husband of 65 years Billy E. Hill, Sr., and son Billy E. Hill, Jr. “Pole.”

Reverend Toby Abbott with Round Pen Cowboy Church in Terrell, Texas, will officiate for Alice’s service.  He will have the assistance of her Worship Pastor, Carrie Wheat.
